I thought it was Interesting that Ambleside
has about 30 outdoor equipement shops ready to satisfy the the every
need of the would be trekker . It kind of reminded me when I used
to go skiing . All those rich weekend skiers in their top gear, cocooned
from the elements but no real understanding of how to engage with
an "untarmaced" landscape. So the hand painted section of
drystone wall with equipement logo's on them brought up quite a lot
of contradictions which ruffled feathers , as it were ...
Letter
of sponsorship to outdoor walking and climbing equipement manufacturers
.
Dear Sir/Madam
I
am writing to request your permission to use the (company) brand logo
as part of a public artwork created by the artist Calum Stirling for
Grizedale sculpture park in Cumbria . The artist is seeking permission
from a number of companies to allow him to copy their brand name logo
with the intention of replicating those logo’s in oil based paint
on hand painted stones taken from , and then reinstalled into , a
section of dry stone wall in the forest .
( See computer generated facsimile ) .
The sited artwork is acompanied by an online companion artweb site
: www.calum.clara.net which public interest is directed to by a hand
painted stone of the web address .
The intention is to replace a selection of fifteen to twenty stones
, representing a selection of outdoor equipment selected at random
from a cross section of the visiting public to the visitors centre
at Grizedale .
This artwork has been initiated with the intention of examining issues
of , how as consumers of outdoor sports ,camping and leisure wear
the general public validate the experience of enjoying nature and
associated outdoor pursuit's by the use of specialist clothing and
equipment of innovative design and developement . The associated web
site expands various issues covered during the artists research ,
including interveiws with members of the public , artists map , web
addresses of participating company web sites and other documention
.
Grizedale sculpture park is an internationally recognised artist residency
program attracting high calibre artists from around the world for
20 years making work for the forest sculpture trail . Calum Stirling
is currently in residence from April -July as part of the ongoing
artist in residence programme .
Yours
Sincerely
